About POL
Polygon, one of Ethereum's leading scaling solutions, has upgraded its ecosystem. As part of this transition, the Polygon network's native token has been upgraded from MATIC to POL — a change that officially took place on September 4, 2024.
This upgrade marks Polygon's evolution into an aggregated blockchain network and introduces a new emissions model. POL now serves as the staking, governance, and gas token across the expanded Polygon ecosystem, replacing MATIC as part of Polygon's long-term effort to improve scalability and unify its multiple chains.
What happened on November 2025
As part of the first phase of Polygon's migration, Bitso delisted MATIC on November 11, 2025:
- MATIC trading and deposits were disabled.
- All pending MATIC orders were automatically cancelled.
- MATIC withdrawals (on Ethereum) remained available.
- POL became fully supported on Bitso: you can buy, sell, deposit, and withdraw it.
What will happen next: automatic migration on March 2026
Bitso will automatically migrate all remaining MATIC balances to POL on March 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM UTC.
Your MATIC balance will be converted to POL at a 1:1 ratio, and your updated balance will appear once the migration is complete. After this date, MATIC will no longer be available on Bitso.
During the migration:
- Deposits, withdrawals, and trading for MATIC and POL will be temporarily paused.
- Any open orders involving MATIC or POL will be automatically cancelled.
No action is required from your side. Your POL tokens will be available automatically.
If you prefer not to have your MATIC automatically converted, you must withdraw your MATIC to an external wallet before March 26, 2026. Once the migration begins, MATIC withdrawals will no longer be available.
Migration reflected in your transaction history
Once the migration is complete, you will see a Swap transaction in your Transaction History confirming the conversion of your MATIC tokens to POL.
After migration:
- You will receive 1 POL for every 1 MATIC held in your wallet.
- MATIC will no longer appear in your portfolio or be available on Bitso.
⚠️ Important: Do not deposit MATIC after March 26
Once the migration is complete, MATIC will no longer be supported on Bitso. Any MATIC sent to your Bitso wallet after the migration date will be permanently and irreversibly lost. Please ensure you only deposit POL via the Polygon network once deposits are reopened.
FAQs
1. Why is Bitso migrating MATIC to POL?
Polygon has upgraded to Polygon 2.0, introducing POL as the new native token. POL replaces MATIC as the unified asset for staking, governance, and gas across Polygon's ecosystem.
2. What happened to MATIC on Bitso in November 2025?
On November 11, 2025, Bitso delisted MATIC: trading and deposits were disabled and all pending orders were cancelled. MATIC withdrawals remained available, and any remaining balances were held securely pending the automatic migration in March 2026.
3. Do I need to do anything for the March 2026 migration?
No. Bitso will handle the entire migration automatically. Your MATIC will be converted to POL at a 1:1 ratio. If you'd prefer not to participate, withdraw your MATIC before March 26, 2026.
4. How will the migration be handled for MATIC holders?
- Open orders involving MATIC will be cancelled automatically.
- MATIC balances will convert to POL at a 1:1 ratio.
- Deposits, withdrawals, and trading will be temporarily paused during the migration.
- After the migration, MATIC will no longer be supported on Bitso.
5. Will my funds be safe during the migration?
Yes. All funds remain secure throughout the process. Services are temporarily paused only to ensure a safe and accurate migration.
6. What happens if I send MATIC to my Bitso wallet after the migration?
Since MATIC will no longer be supported after March 26, any MATIC sent to your Bitso wallet will be permanently lost. Always verify you are sending POL over the Polygon network after the migration.
7. Can I opt out of the migration?
Yes. If you prefer not to participate, withdraw your MATIC to an external wallet before March 26, 2026. Once the migration starts, this will no longer be possible.
8. Can I trade or use POL now?
Yes. POL is already fully supported on Bitso and available for buying, selling, depositing, and withdrawing.
9. How will the migration appear in my transaction history?
You will see a Swap transaction converting your MATIC tokens into POL. This confirms the migration was completed successfully.
