How do I activate 2FA on my Bitso account?

Modified on:

You can activate two-step verification on your Bitso account from the website or the app, on both iPhone and Android. This extra security step works alongside your password and helps protect your account from unauthorized access.

Activate it from the website

  1. After you log in, go to "Profile" and, in the side menu, select "Security". In the submenu, select "Account security".
  2. In the "2FA Token" section, click "Activate" and, in the banner that appears, select "Continue".
  3. Download a verification app (for example, Google Authenticator or Authy) and, after you install it, click "I already have the app".
  4. Scan the QR code, or copy and paste the code Bitso gives you into the verification app. Name the account, for example "Bitso".
  5. Enter the 6-digit code the app generates in your Bitso account. Once it is accepted, two-step verification is activated.

Activate it from the app (iPhone and Android)

  1. Open the Bitso app and tap the menu icon ☰ in the top left corner.
  2. Go to "Security".
  3. Select "2FA Authentication" and tap "Continue".
  4. If you don't have a verification app installed yet, choose one (for example, Google Authenticator or Authy) and download it from your phone's app store.
  5. After you install it, go back to the Bitso app and tap "I already have the app".
  6. Copy the code that appears on the screen.
  7. Open your verification app, tap the "+" icon and choose the option to enter the code manually.
  8. Paste the code you copied and save it.
  9. Copy the temporary code the verification app generates.
  10. Go back to the Bitso app, paste the code and tap "Continue".

Didn't work? Here's what to do

If the code says it is invalid or expired

Two-step verification codes depend on the exact time. If the clock on your phone or in your verification app is out of sync, the code does not match.

  1. Set your phone's date and time to automatic, with the correct time zone.
    • Android: go to Settings > General management (or System) > Date and time and turn on "Automatic date and time".
    • iPhone: go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on "Set Automatically".
  2. If you use Google Authenticator on Android, open the app, go to Settings > Time correction for codes and tap "Sync now".
  3. Enter the code as soon as it appears, before it changes.

If the error continues, contact us through the chat in the app or on the website and send a short video of the error.

If you lose access to your verification app

If you lose access to the device with your verification app and you also lost your recovery code, contact our support team to recover access to your account.
