Aave (AAVE)

You can deposit or withdraw AAVE from Bitso using the Ethereum (ERC-20) network exclusively. Make sure you choose this network when transferring your coins.

What is Aave (AAVE)?

Aave is a Defi borrowing and lending platform. AAVE is an ERC-20 governance token that is used to make decisions regarding the Aave protocol and how it should provide its services. To avoid confusion, the token will always be fully capitalized. Aave ensures liquidity by incentivizing users to lend their tokens by offering attractive interest rates to lenders, while users looking to borrow are offered competitive rates. To borrow, however, a user must provide a greater value than what they intend to borrow, a process known as collateral.

What makes it unique?

  • Works under a liquidity pool system, where users provide liquidity to the protocol by lending their assets in exchange for interest rates (passive income);

  • Borrowers must have a higher level than what they are attempting to borrow locked away as collateral;

  • Users who lend their tokens by placing them in liquidity pools become Liquidity Providers (LPs);

  • LPs are rewarded twice, once in the form of interest gained and twice in the form of governance token rewards;

  • Non-custodial lending, the funds a user places in a liquidity pool are always available to be instantly withdrawn.

Purpose

AAVE token holders can take an active charge in the governance of Aave. They can create and vote on Aave Improvement Proposals (AIPs). These are community-created proposals where AAVE holders come together and decide what sorts of changes if any, should be implemented into the protocol to help maintain it and keep it safe. Deciding which tokens should be provided for borrowing/lending, for example, is decided this way. The supply of AAVE is hard-capped at 16M tokens.
