A stop order lasts 1 day or 90 days, depending on the duration you choose. It can also change or be cancelled because of corporate events or operational failures.
Duration and expiration
- 1 day: active until the market closes (4:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time). If you place it while the market is closed, it applies to the next business day.
- 90 days: active until it sells, you cancel it, or 90 days pass. Whole-share quantities only. Fractional quantities can only use 1 day.
We notify you 3 days before a 90-day order expires. When it expires, the order does not renew: to keep it, you need to place a new one.
Corporate events and trading halts
- Stock split: your order may be adjusted (the stop price and quantity change proportionally) or cancelled.
- Reverse split, merger, ticker change, or delisting: your order is cancelled.
- Trading halt or pause: your order stays active but doesn't activate while it lasts. When trading resumes, the price may be very different.
We always let you know if your order changes or is cancelled because of one of these events.
Operational failures and responsibilities
Nvierto is responsible for receiving your instruction in the Bitso app and transmitting it to Alpaca Securities LLC. Alpaca is responsible for monitoring the price and for activating and executing your order under its rules.
Failures in the app, at Alpaca, in your connection, or at market data providers can delay placing or cancelling your order, or the information about its status. If an order executes before its cancellation is processed, the sale stands.
Didn't work? Here's what to do
If your order was cancelled or you don't see the result you expected, check its status in Activity > Scheduled, filtering by Stops. Tap the order to see its details.
Contact our support team if the order was cancelled or rejected with no clear reason, if its status isn't updating, or if the quantity or amount sold doesn't match your portfolio.
