Bitso is partnering with Mercado Bitcoin so you can keep using crypto services after we stop offering retail services in Brazil on October 30, 2026. This article explains exactly what happens to your balance depending on your situation, so you always know where your funds are and what you need to do.
Your funds are safe and accounted for in every scenario. Nothing is lost, and some balances just require an extra step from you to move.
1. You opted in (or already have a Mercado Bitcoin account and take no action)
What happens: Your entire balance (crypto and BRL) will be automatically transferred to your Mercado Bitcoin account before October 30, 2026. If you hold any non-BRL fiat balance, it will be converted to USDC and transferred along with your crypto.
What moves:
- Your full crypto balance
- Your BRL (reais) balance
- Any non-BRL fiat balance (converted to USDC)
What you need to do: Nothing. The transfer happens automatically on our side, and we'll keep you updated at every step until it's complete.
A note on Pix: Pix keys aren't tied to your balance, so they can't be transferred between platforms automatically. If you want to keep using the same Pix key you had at Bitso, you can either delete it directly from your Bitso account or create a new key with the same details directly in Mercado Bitcoin, once your Bitso account is closed. If you don't want to delete it, it will be active until October 30, 2026. After this date, the account will be closed, and you can use the same Pix key in another financial institution.
2. You didn't respond, and don't have a Mercado Bitcoin account
If we didn't hear back from you and our records show you hadn't opened an account with Mercado Bitcoin by September 30, 2026, here's what happens:
What happens: We'll open a pre-active account in your name with Mercado Bitcoin and transfer your crypto balance there so your funds have somewhere to go. To access your new account, you can simply complete the onboarding process with Mercado Bitcoin whenever you want.
What moves to Mercado Bitcoin:
- Your crypto balance
- Any non-BRL fiat balance (converted to USDC and transferred together with your crypto)
What stays at Bitso:
- Your BRL (reais) balance. This will not be automatically transferred.
What you need to do to redeem your BRL: Your reais are safe. To redeem them, you need to contact our Support team to go through the recovery process. You can keep operating with your other assets (now in Mercado Bitcoin) as usual in the meantime.
Want to avoid the extra step? You can still act before the deadlines below:
- Open an account with Mercado Bitcoin (code BITSOMB) so your full balance, including BRL, transfers automatically, or
- Withdraw your funds to any account of your choice before your Bitso account closes.
If you'd prefer not to migrate at all, you can select Opt out in the Bitso app by Sept 30, 2026, and withdraw your funds to any account you choose.
3. You didn't respond, but you already have a Mercado Bitcoin account
What happens: Since you already have an account with Mercado Bitcoin, your entire balance of crypto, BRL, and any non-BRL fiat (converted to USDC) will be automatically transferred there before October 30, 2026. No separate step is needed for your reais, because they can go straight into the account you already hold.
What moves:
- Your full crypto balance
- Your BRL (reais) balance
- Any non-BRL fiat balance (converted to USDC)
What you need to do: Nothing. The transfer happens on our side, and you'll be able to check everything directly in your Mercado Bitcoin account once it's complete.
A note on Pix: Pix keys aren't tied to your balance and won't transfer automatically. You can delete the key from your Bitso account or recreate it in Mercado Bitcoin once your Bitso account is closed. If you don't want to delete it, it will be active until October 30, 2026. After this date, the account will be closed, and you can use the same Pix key in another financial institution.
Good to know, in every scenario
- If you hold assets eligible for Earnings, your final payment will be made on September 28, 2026, and credited directly to your account.
- Assets classified as Unsupported will be converted to USDC where applicable.
- Watch out for scams: Bitso will never ask you for your password, credentials, or verification codes by email, phone, or message.
