When you buy or sell crypto in the Bitso app, you pay a fee called the spread. The spread is a percentage of the total transaction amount, and Bitso shows it to you before you confirm the operation.
How the spread works
Every time you convert crypto in the app, Bitso shows a summary screen with the amount you pay, the amount you receive, and the spread applied to the operation. This fee guarantees that you receive the exact amount you want to buy or sell, instead of that amount minus a separate charge, or a different amount caused by market movement.
The conversion rate on your summary screen stays fixed for 20 seconds. If you don't confirm within that time, Bitso calculates a new rate to reflect current market conditions.
The spread percentage can change depending on your region and the currencies involved in your transaction. Always check the spread on the summary screen before you confirm.
The three ways to buy or sell crypto
- Instant buy or sell: the most direct option. You convert crypto for local currency, or crypto for crypto, and the operation happens right away.
- Recurring buy or sell: you set up automatic purchases or sales on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. You need available balance in your account for each scheduled operation to go through.
- Scheduled buy or sell: you set a target price, and Bitso executes the operation automatically when the market reaches that price. There's no guarantee the target price will be reached, since this depends on market conditions.
What determines the final price
The price of any crypto purchase or sale on Bitso depends on the market price, the spread, market volatility, and the liquidity available for the size of your operation.
