Why is Bitso hibernating some trading books on Alpha?

Modified on:

On September 10, 2026, Bitso will hibernate a group of trading books on Alpha because of low trading volume and liquidity. Here is what changes and what you need to do.

Affected trading books

What happens to pending orders

If you have a pending limit order, stop-loss order, or any other pending instruction in one of the affected books, Bitso cancels it automatically on September 10, 2026. A canceled order is treated as if you never placed it, and you don't need to do anything.

You still have access to these assets

Hibernation only removes trading on that specific book on Alpha. You keep access to the underlying asset. You can:

  • Trade the asset through other pairs on Alpha where available, such as its USD book.
  • Convert the asset directly through Conversions in the main Bitso app, including between ETH and BTC.

For example, AVAX/MXN leaves Alpha, but AVAX/USD stays tradable on Alpha, and you can still convert Mexican pesos to AVAX at any time through Conversions.

Your balance is not affected

Your balance in every currency involved stays safe, untouched, and available at all times. Hibernation does not move, lock, or convert your funds. It only removes the ability to place new orders in the affected books on Alpha.

What to do before September 10

If you have an open order in one of the affected books and you want to control its timing or price, review and adjust it before September 10, 2026. If you don't, Bitso cancels it automatically and you don't need to take further action.
