In August 2026, Bitso partnered with Mercado Bitcoin (MB), Brazil’s most recognized exchange, to offer you the best service possible. As a consequence of this partnership, Bitso will close its direct retail services in Brazil by October 30, 2026. Here's what this means for your account, what your options are, and the key dates to keep in mind.
What's happening to my Bitso account?
If you want to keep your balance active and earning returns, you can migrate it to Mercado Bitcoin. To do this, open your account and enter the exclusive code BITSOMB in the designated field during the registration process on the new platform by September 30, 2026, and your balance will be transferred automatically. You'll be able to log in with the same credentials you already use on Bitso.
If you'd rather not migrate, you can opt out and manage your own transfer instead. Either way, your balance is safe, and we'll walk you through exactly what to do next.
From October 31, 2026, your Bitso account will be closed. After that, if you have a remaining crypto balance and have opted out, Bitso will custody your assets and BRL until you contact us but please bear in mind that your funds might be converted into another currency. Since the value of digital assets fluctuates, the outcome of the automatic conversion may differ from what you would get by acting before the deadline.
If you still have a balance by this date, you'll need to contact our Support team to recover it.
Why migrate to Mercado Bitcoin?
Due to this wonderful partnership, MB has decided to grant very special incentives and perks to those customers. Thus, when migrating your balance by activating an account on Mercado Bitcoin, you'll get access to exclusive benefits on MB, such as:
- Extended fee-free period on crypto buying and selling
- Digital Fixed Income with special returns
- Boosted staking
- Dedicated advisory for clients with high custody balances
What happens to my balance?
If you hold crypto:
Your crypto balance will be transferred to Mercado Bitcoin, regardless of whether you've finished setting up your MB account by then.
- If you've already created your MB account (or create it before the transfer), your crypto will be moved directly into that account.
- If you haven't created an MB account and haven't opted out, MB will automatically pre-activate an account for you that will need to be activated by you. With this pre-accountyour crypto has a place to go.
- If you're holding any asset that's not listed on MB, your balance will be converted into USDC.
If you hold a reais balance:
Your BRL balance will only be transferred if you've created your MB account (or already have one). If you don't have an MB account by then, your BRL balance won't be transferred automatically, you'll need to have your account set up first.
What if I'd rather not migrate?
You can opt out directly in the app: from the Home screen, tap "Learn more" on the banner at the top, then select "Opt out."
If you opt out, convert and transfer your remaining balance (in reais and/or crypto) to the account or wallet of your choice as soon as possible, and by October 30, 2026 at the latest.
If you don't select Opt out, your funds will be migrated to Mercado Bitcoin automatically, following the timeline below.
What about my Pix keys?
We won't migrate your Pix keys automatically. If you'd like to keep using them, you'll need to unlink them from Bitso first, then create new keys directly in MB. Any Pix key still linked to Bitso after October 30, 2026, will be automatically unlinked and deleted.
Key dates to keep in mind
September 1, 2026
- New Bitso accounts can no longer be created, and you'll start seeing in-app notices about this change.
October 1, 2026
- Pix deposits are no longer available, but you can still transfer (withdraw) reais via Pix or send crypto to external accounts or wallets.
- Crypto deposits will no longer be credited to your account.
October 31, 2026
- All Bitso app services will stop.
- Accounts with a zero balance are closed the same day.
- If you didn't transfer your balance to Mercado Bitcoin, your account access will be blocked, even if you still have a remaining balance, since you didn't act within the October 30 deadline.
November 30, 2026
- If you still have a balance by this date, you'll need to contact our Support team to recover it.
What happens if I miss the deadlines?
Your balance doesn't disappear, it stays safely in custody until your account is closed. If you still have a balance afterward and want to recover it, reach out to our Support team through our website.
What if my account also operates in pesos or dollars?
Your account won't be closed. You'll keep full access and functionality. This change only affects reais: you'll lose access to Pix and to moving reais within your account.
You can activate an account under your name on Mercado Bitcoin by September 30, 2026, and we'll automatically transfer your reais balance there. If you'd rather opt out, you can convert or withdraw your reais balance to any account you choose.
If you still have a reais balance in your Bitso account after October 30, 2026, we'll convert it to USDC and deposit it into your account.
Is my balance safe?
Yes. Your balance is safe and accounted for throughout this entire process, and you won't lose access before the dates above.
Can I still access my transaction history after my account closes?
Yes. You can request your transaction history for income tax filing purposes at any time.
How do I protect myself from scams?
Moments like this attract scammers pretending to be Bitso. A few things to remember:
- We'll never ask for your password, verification code, or private key by email, WhatsApp, or phone.
- We'll never reach out through social media, and we don't have agents or consultants acting on our behalf.
If you receive a suspicious message, or one that didn't come through our official app or email channels, contact our Support team through the app or website to confirm.
Where can I ask questions?
Our Support team is here to help you through every step of this process. Reach out anytime through the app or our website.
