Digital asset investment scams show up in different forms, but they all share the same pattern: promises of exorbitant returns in a short time and fake guarantees. Here are the most common warning signs.
- Be wary of guarantees and big promises. Scammers often promise you'll make money fast, get a high return, or earn guaranteed profits. They may offer you money for nothing, in cash or in digital assets, and may even claim a celebrity's endorsement. Don't believe it. You make money when you sell your digital assets for more than you paid. Don't trust anyone who says they know a better way to make you money.
- Research before you invest. Search online for the company name and the digital asset's name along with words like "review," "scam," or "complaint."
- Anyone who asks you to pay with digital assets, a money transfer, or a gift card to access the Bitso app, open an account on the platform, or receive the earnings from your digital asset purchases and sales is trying to scam you. If you pay them, there is no way to get your money back.
