What is an EVM-compatible address?

Modified on:

An EVM-compatible address is a crypto address that follows the same format used by networks built on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The EVM is the software that runs smart contracts and processes transactions on the Ethereum network. Because networks like Avalanche, Polygon, and Base are also built on the EVM, you can use the same address to receive crypto on any of them.

When another network works the same way as the EVM, it is considered EVM-compatible. This means you can receive crypto on those networks without needing to generate a different address for each one.

A crypto address itself is the unique string of letters and numbers you use to send or receive digital assets.
