What is a Merkle Tree Snapshot?

Modified on:

Creating the artifacts to show solvency is an expensive process. Too many trades, deposits, and withdrawals are being executed at the time. So we define a specific point in the recent past to take a picture of all our liabilities and assets at the same moment. This way, we can compare apples to apples, and we don't disrupt the system's normal operation.

A Merkle Tree Snapshot is similar to a print screen, but instead of capturing an image, it captures a picture of the data hashed in the Merkle Tree at that moment.
