Why is Bitso providing its own Merkle Tree?

Modified on:

The Merkle Tree is one piece in our broader plan to show solvency. It's a tamper-proof artifact, meaning no one can change it once Bitso releases it. It gives clients the ability to verify that their account balances were considered when calculating the liabilities of the company (provided that it is validated by a trusted third party). At the same time, it offers privacy, as no one can determine the balances of a given client from the Tree’s data, nor does it expose private information of Bitso's operation.
