How to read your Bitso proof-of-solvency report

Modified on:

Your proof-of-solvency report shows the results of Bitso's zero-knowledge proof, a mathematical proof that confirms Bitso holds enough funds to cover what it owes its customers. When the report status shows Solvent, it means Bitso meets the requirements to be considered a solvent financial institution. You can also use the data in the report to check Bitso's solvency yourself. Here is how to read and use each part of the report.

Download your report

You can always find your proof-of-solvency reports in your Bitso profile. Tap the download button next to a report to save a copy.

Balance and solvency status

The first part of the report is a table with your balance at the time the report was issued, along with the solvency status.

The table includes these columns:

  • Cryptocurrency: the report currently covers Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). Bitso plans to add more digital assets to future reports.
  • Balance: the amount of each cryptocurrency you held in your account when the report was issued.
  • Solvency status: when this column shows Solvent, it confirms that Bitso's zero-knowledge proof was audited and verified as correct.

Verify the report on Etherscan

Etherscan is a tool that lets you look up data recorded on Ethereum's public transaction record. Bitso uses it to publish the zero-knowledge proof each time it issues a proof-of-solvency report.

Tap Check the report on Etherscan to see the signed message that contains Bitso's most recent proof of solvency.

Check the obligations report

The obligations report is an essential part of the proof of solvency. Your report includes the Merkle tree Bitso used to generate the proof, a structure that lets you verify data without exposing anyone else's account details.

Download the Merkle tree and use the root hash, your leaf node, and your unique identifier to calculate and confirm on your own whether your balance is included in Bitso's obligations.

If you don't have a balance in Bitcoin or Ether

If you don't hold any Bitcoin (BTC) or Ether (ETH) when the report is generated, you may see a message stating you have no balance for that report.

This is expected. If you deposit either cryptocurrency afterward, your balance will be included in the next report.
